higher kill numbers were partially driven by some liquidation of market hogs. I had not considered the possibility that they were being forced to ship to make space for younger hogs. The December to February pig crop was substantial at 28.8 million. That is +2.35% over the 2013 crop so there are substantial numbers in producers' barns. So far, the kill is coming in reasonably consistent with the last H&P report except for the low kill number on Monday.
Packers seem to be sweetening their bids this week. These higher bids are bringing in good numbers of hogs. Now to see if packers keep their bids firm.
