I suppose this change-over by Smithfield means their total production will go into the export market and I doubt they will be the only exporter. There are not enough hogs in the U.S. and Canada to replace the loss that China is having so rationing will have to take place. That rationing may take place by letting the market forces work. I suppose it is possible that China could require a license or a food stamp like we used during the World War II to control consumption and inflation rather than let the market forces work. But that will not increase the supply of pork - it would only decide who gets to eat it.

I don't think we are involved in "Group-think", Dewey. The fundamentals are just too compelling for that.
