The CME Lean Hog Index component on the kill for -

1/30/19 was down -0.82 to 56.85. It looks like the GGGs are settling discount to th component by -0.60. The data on the hogs killed yesterday was a bit unusual. For starters, only 261K were killed and the carcass weights on the negotiated hogs killed was only 174.51#. They have been running a bit over 203#. I guess this cold weather has things all messed up. If hogs are being backed-up, it could complicate getting hogs to market in an orderly fashion.

The 6+day moving average carcass weight moved up to 215.6#. That is +1.05# year/year. Index hogs were steady at 214.02#. Packer hogs continue to be heavier by +3.76#.

Packer hogs continue to provide a larger and larger percentage of the daily kill. It was 42.12% of the weather reduced kill yesterday. The actual number of packer hogs killed yesterday was way down, but they did ship more hogs than the non-packers relatively speaking.

I am still HODLing a few summer futures and it is getting to the point that I am truly "Holding On for Dear Life." Maybe I am hoping for "China to the rescue."

Best wishes,

dhm
