Another case of ASF was detected in Anhui province bringing the total cases in this province to 8 out of 19 total cases. Estimates are that only 40,000 pigs have been culled but something north of 20 million pigs have been potentially exposed to this disease. I’ve concluded the Chinese government is keeping the world in the dark in regards to what is really happening. Odds are high the situation is much worse than what is currently being reported. When the market reaches the same conclusion, futures will likely rally $20 over about two weeks in duration. We hope to be long when this occurs. The USDA will issue a revised meat supply/demand table tomorrow. I wonder if they’ll show an upward revision in projected pork exports?
