The CME Lean Hog Index component on the kill for -

12/27/16 kill was DOWN (TO MY SURPRISE) -0.08 to 57.91. With the strength in the GGGs, the "Gap" is now opened to 7.11 with the GGGs at the premium.

The 6-day moving average carcass weight eased a little to 210.69#. That is -2.82# yr/yr. Producers are continuing to move their hogs to market at a rapid clip and are staying very current in their shipments. But not the packers. They are finishing their hogs +4.71# heavier. I think that says packers are buying hogs now anticipating higher prices for their hogs a bit later. Index hogs are a bit lighter at 210.09#.

I'm now flat the GGGs and fat the purse.

Best wishes,

dhm
