6/15/15 drifted lower by 0.35 to 80.84. The NNNs are now discounted to the component by 3.39. Generally in front of the Independence Day holiday the Index will climb a point or two. This year there just seems to be too many heavy hogs for that to happen.
The six-day moving average carcass weight did dip to 212.97# this morning. Packer hogs lost more than the non-packer hogs. Warmer weather may be starting to slow growth or maybe producers are moving into a more current state in their shipments. One thing is very clear, though, and that is we have a lot more hogs than we had last year but they are not quite as heavy being down 2.53# from this date last year.
