Reading your story, Tim, brought back - - -
In Response To: Hogs/Not trade related ()

old memories. It was summer 1941. My Dad had planted several small fields of corn. Weed control back in those day was cultivation and our cultivation system consisted of my older brother who 12 guiding the one-row cultivator while I rode the one-eyed plow mare.

When fall arrived, my Dad said, "You boys did a good job cultivating and I will give you a piglet for your pay."

We only had one sow and she had a litter of 13-piglets and only 12-dinner plates. Our pig was NOT the runt without a dinner plate but one of the better hogs. When our hog went to market we sold for $30.00 - fifteen for each of us.

That was my introduction to the world of finance and the world of hog production and marketing.

After that I raised quite a few hogs as FFA projects.

Now I deal in paper hogs and don't have to worry about my neighbors making a big stink over my hog odors.

Thanks for your story and I am wondering, where do you farm?

Best wishes,

Doc
