Re: The CME Lean Hog Index component on the kill f

Hello DH, and thanks for stats, I hope you get a chance to sell MM's again. I have been trying to get rid of MM's for a week and No luck! I guess my price has been too rich!

Dennis is pessimistic on the hogs right now. Following is part of what I received from him this evening

My sources suggest the big shipments to China will likely begin in second half of July into early Aug. This would coincide with massive sow liquidation in Jan-Feb, tightening up butcher supplies dramatically in late summer. We will have some Oct three way risk reversals in place long before this timeframe. In the meantime I continue to hear that more and more Smithfield plants are converting to split carcasses. In the “funny business” category, I’m told these initial shipments are tariff free as they’re being purchased by the Chinese government for placement into their frozen stock reserve. I’m also told these shipments are not being reported. I said this in 2013 and I’m saying it again now, the Justice Dept allowing the purchase of Smithfield was a mistake. There’s way too much funny business going on here. Smithfield is the largest pork producer in the U.S. and owns about 18% of the sow population.
