The CME Lean Hog Index component on the kill for -

4/23/19 was up +0.65 to 83.04. The MMMs settled premium to the component by +9.73. The model calculates that the component will need to gain an average of +0.265 per day to close the "Gap". The component as been up and average of +0.53 per day for the past five days.

The 6-day moving average carcass weight was steady at 215.65#. That is +0.54# yr/yr.. Packer hogs were heavier than the non-packer hogs by +3.75#. Index hogs were lighter at 214.34#. The percentage of packer hogs was up to nearly 40%. Packers may be being a bit more aggressive in shipping their hogs now and it may be causing the carcass weights to drop.

Best wishes,
