Good morning. Cash hog prices actually showed some strength on Friday, quoted up .50 out west with prices in the east not established. Hog futures rallied and managed to close higher. I believe it was the third Friday rally and higher close in the Dec hogs. The trade appears to be anticipating a change in trend, no doubt about that. While we're not convinced of a new uptrend in the making, we tightened our buy stops down to break even. These were elected on Friday, taking us out of the shorts. We'll get production and export projection data this morning in the USDA supply/demand report. The next seasonal peak timing is later this month. We'll be watching for a new selling opportunity into this seasonal top timing. With plentiful corn supplies (also to be updated today) and expansion underway, we're interested in trading hogs from the short side. Aggressive early buying and/or selling today would likely be tied to retail clearance over the weekend.
