The CME component on the kill for - - -

11/5/14 was down 0.37 to 88.07. The ZZZs are now discounted to the component by 0.52 which means the "Gap" is essentially closed.

The six-day moving average carcass weight moved up to 215.46# with both packer hogs and non-packer hogs moving up about the same amount. This is 3.68# heavier than one-year ago. If the kill increases a couple of percentages like the H&P report suggests and the year-over-year weight increase holds, by the time the year ends, packers will be producing more pork than they produced last year.

Sure beef is in short supply but the level of pork production may be sufficient to keep a lid on hog prices until we see the kill begin to decline in 2015.

I have made a few short scalping trades - nothing great but it has kept my mind occupied.

Best wishes,
