Re: DH, I always leg into

the spread because I get impatient waiting for spread orders to fill while the range is trading the spread target but just not at the same time to get a spread order filled. I do try to treat it as a spread but lack of patience many times will cause me to accept a small deposit(the prime directive thing) or fear that $4 gut punch(the hallucination thing) if I sit to long on a $2 loss. A few times I have been able to scalp some profits from 1 or both legs to build a cushion so I don't have to fear the gut punch. I am usually more focused on the hog leg and have additional positions the same as the hog leg and I lose track of my spread leg. This happened one time to late to realize I was one sided, too many accounts, positions, and poor focus is not a good combination. My responsibility dictates my account takes a back seat at times.

The June/June and Oct/Oct cattle/hog spreads are 2 of the most high probability, productive spreads to trade but usually not ripe for the picking until they get a month or two from being front month. Then you have to wait for the paint to dry to reap the rewards.
