The CME Lean Hog Index component on the kill for -

1/12/18 was up 1.01 to 71.56. With the GGGs settling at 71.575 they were almost exactly at the component. The six-day moving average carcass weight firmed to 214.94#. That is +1.27# year over year. Generally escalating carcass weights are a signal that producers are behind in their shipments.

And that may be the case now. There is another possibility, though, and that is that packers are wanting to process heavier hogs. The fact that packer hogs have been running heavier than the non-packer hogs is making me think that we are witnessing the continuation of the heavier trend.

Still a tiny bit long tne GGGs but I'm not married to them and I scalp out a bit from time to time and then get back in on a dip.
