10/4/17 was up 0.42 to 55.54 giving us a "Gap" of +5.54 with the VVVs premium to the component. With seven more days of data to come in, the model calculated that the component will need to jump 69.5 cents per day to close the "Gap". Over the last three days it has been up an average of 21.8 cents per day.
The six-day moving average carcass weight was steady at 210.44#. That is +0.20# yr/yr. Producers may have caught up on their shipments and may be quite current in their shipments now. Packer hogs are +0.56# over non-packer hogs. Perhaps the trend to finish hogs to a heavier weight is continuing. Packers probably like the increased efficiency of processing heavier hogs. There is really no problem with a heavier hog that a sharp knife cannot fix. But the feeding efficiency does go down/
I'm trying to scalp from the short side today. Not much luck so far but the calendar spreads are showing a little life.
Best wishes
