Re: Greg, the reason I trade-----
In Response To: Re: I would have thought---- ()

this spread every year is that I'm usually short June cattle at some point and long June hogs at some point. This is also why I leg into the spread rather than guess when that spread will narrow to my liking. legging into the spread also forces me to micro manage each leg to keep my spread boat afloat. That fits my style of trading so it's not a problem for me, which also helps keep me awake with fishing deposits during the paint drying process. When I first started gaining some valuable knowledge about spreading, from none other than DH, I started to realize the addiction for June cattle to go down and June hogs to go up.

I also realized that many years that spread would have given me more profits than I would go to the bank with profits from my June cattle shorts + my June hog longs. Then I had the bright idea of using 1 of my best positions for the short cattle with my best position for the long hogs as a spread to see how it turned out. The first two years I did this, it was EUPHORIC, I thought I had found the Goose that laid the Golden Egg------the third year I got egg in my face but I was hooked and have continued to grab my Annual June cattle/June hog spread, with a lot of tweaking year to year. This year's spread went in the record books as a Royal Pain, my fishing deposits saved me from a beating, there sure wasn't any paint drying process to deal with. One of those 20% failures but that happens regardless of whether you are spreading or not spreading. Proof that Damage Control is critical to survival.
