either. The analyst polled by Urner Barry has the 180# and hogs projected to be up 2.6% with a range of +1.5% to +3.9%. If they come in at the "Average" it will mean that packers have been pulling hogs forward and producers are SUPER CURRENT in their shipments. That could be a prescription for those who are short the VVVs (of which I am one) to get their ears pinned back.

From the noon reports the model projects that the Purchase Index for today will drop -0.11 and the component on today's kill will be down another -0.35 to -0.65. The rate at which packers are lowering their bids seems to be slowing a bit. For several days now the final Purchase Index has been lower than that projected from the noon reports.

As we get closer to the closing, we will find out who is more worried the longs or the shorts.
