The CME Lean Hog Index component on the kill for -

9/15/17 was down -1.34 to 62.24. The VVVs are now trading discount to the component by -2.19. That is not much of a "Gap" and most of the closure has come from the Index falling.

The six-day moving average carcass weight jumped to 211.20#. That is +1.31# year/year. It continues to appear that hogs are not being processed as quickly as they are being finished.

Not good this time of the year!!

The Friday/Saturday kill featured a larger than usual kill of packer hogs. Consequently packer hog weights were unchanged but non-packer hogs jumped by +0.71. That is not an insignificant jump on a 6-day moving average weight!! Index hogs were also heavier at 210.81#.

Still long the VVVs and ZZZs but I don't have a Dewey-sized load.

Best wishes,

dhm,
