My Friends, the morning reports are - - -

late today so I will ramble for a few minutes. The data seems to be telling me that there are not as many hogs as the USDA promised. We had a strong kill during March and most of April but the kill has been below projections for more than a month now. The falling carcass weight makes me think that packers have pulled hogs forward to keep the kill rate up. Packers have been emptying their barns at an unusually fast rate. The strong demand seems to be the driving force behind this pulling of hogs forward. I am having a little trouble keeping my bear skin coat on with this kind of data.

Best wishes,

dhm
