The CME Lean Hog Index component on the kill for -

3/9/17 kill was down -0.07 to 72.47. Numbers like that will not close the -4.80 "Gap" that the JJJs are below the index. The JJJs would have to do part of the lifting and tack on a point or two. There are 25-days of data coming in before we get to cash settlement and a lot can happen over that time period.

The 6-day moving average carcass weight firmed to 212.61# and it was the packer hogs that were heavier. They are now +3.40# over the non-packer hogs. The percentage of packer hogs in the kill-mix was down a bit yesterday. I just keep thinking that heavier packer hogs means packers want more pork. The cut out report only shows us what packers are doing with 5% to 10% of the pork so the guessing game goes on and on.

Scalping has been fairly good today and there has been a little movement in the calendar spreads. It wouldn't surprise me to see the JJJs end the day on a "Hi" note.

Best wishes,
