report shows that packers have 1.93 million hogs scheduled. That is the first time it has dropped below 2.0 million for quite long time. That is 141K below this date last week and 135K below the same date last year. The PED virus induced shortage of hogs is right here and now.

That is only half of the equation. The other half is demand and it appears, from an historical standpoint, that demand is going to weaken later this week or next. The fact remains, though, that consumers are still going to eat meat and the shortage of beef will surely be a bit supportive of pork demand and the heavy weight carcasses is NOT a non-issue!
