a 1998 style blow-out only if there are more hogs than packers have kill capacity. If packers are able to kill the hogs, there are enough hungry mouths in the world to carry off the pork. I don't know what the maximum kill capacity is. This week and last week they ran close to 2.5 million head through and that was not enough to keep the 6-day moving average carcass weight from inching up. Today it was 210.22# and three weeks ago today it was 208.43#. There is a cooler weather factor at work here and perhaps some fresh corn, but that is still quite a jump. On this date in 2014 it was 213.34# so at least it is not at a record high level.
