Large lean hog futures volume was posted from yesterday at nearly 73,000, the largest daily volume in over five months. Prices collapsed during the session with Dec, Feb and April posting fresh contract lows. Near panic short covering, due to rumors about strong loin prices persisting, drove Oct sharply higher only to pull way off the highs into the close. Open interest declined by over 10,000 cars in the Oct hogs. I’m guessing that most of the shorts that covered would like to have their position back. Cash is expected to grind lower under the weight of huge weekly hog slaughter. This week’s kill is projected to be near 2.4 million, up 12% compared to last week and up 2.4% compared to last year.We remain bearish toward hog futures and expecting the downtrend to remain in place

DH, this has been a mixed up day for me! Today I think of Farmer ED - "I talk hogs better"n I trade em"!

I got out of my Dec with a decent profit, did some day trades and am still short Oct & long Feb. If Dec bounces some tomorrow I will sell some of them to go with what I have.

DH, I so much appreciate your and Itz's thoughts on the hogs. I surely get mixed up at times on my own!
