The kill for the last three weeks was down 0.7% from the same period last year but the H&P report shows +1.2% more hogs in the 180# plus category. I am thinking producers either have a few extra hogs that are going to be coming to market shortly or the USDA counted too many hogs.

Falling carcass weights are not suggesting that producers are falling out of currency in their shipments but hot weather may be slowing the growth rate of hogs.

I will be watching the kill rate with more than casual interest.
