The CME component on the kill for - - -

2/9/16 was only up +0.12 to 65.34. There is a good chance that packer have enough more expensive hogs purchased to bump the component up for another day or two but it is difficult to know which batch of hogs the packers will choose to kill on a given day. If they have a futures position in one direction or the other, I suppose it is possible to kill hogs priced to benefit their futures position. I just don't know.

The six-day moving average carcass weight up up mildly at 213.18#. That is -2.49# yr/yr. The lightest category of hogs that I track was the Index hogs at 211.82#. This keeps suggesting to me that the producers of Index hogs are quite current in their shipments.

On the dip this morning I added more GGGs thinking the Index may be pushed up a little when the next three days of data gets released. Looking at the way the deferred contracts are being battered today, that may be wishful thinking.

Best wishes,
