exactly what makes up the index and non-index hogs. The Index hogs make up something like 40% of the hogs and packer-owned hogs account for about a third. It will be interesting to see if packers expand their production. In watching the numbers, I get the impression that packers may have been hit a little harder by the PED virus than the non-packers were.
