The CME component on the kill for - - -

5/1/15 soared by +1.92 to 72.15. That represents some mighty serious one-day closure of the "Gap". It has now dropped to 9.95 on the MMMs and 4.85 on the KKKs. The K/M spread of -5.10 is a little wider than usual. If packers are short-bought on hogs in front of the holiday demand surge, the spread may close a bit further.

At the same time the 6-day moving average carcass weight climbed to 213.79#. That's -3.96 last year but +5.63# over 2013. More often than not the carcass weight will be a little strong on Monday and I don't know why. I am still of the opinion that producers are quite current in their shipments and they seem to have plenty of hogs coming along behind the ones they are shipping.

The hog market has gone "Quiet" and I'm not getting much done today.

Best wishes,
