The final Purchase Index for - - -

4/6/15 was up 0.51 and the model projects that the CME Lean Hog Index component on the 4/6/15 kill will jump between +0.10 and +0.40. Packers made only a fair purchase yesterday at 87.2% of the moving average daily purchases. Yesterday the scheduled number was ddown 2.66% from the same day last year and it was 127K below the same date last week. In addition to that the kill yesterday was a paltry 295K.

What in the world is going on here?

Have we hit a hole in the number of market ready hogs that producers have available?

Or maybe the high kill numbers for the past month or so was producers puling hogs forward and drawing down their inventory of market hogs?

The six-day moving average carcass weight is now -0.93# year/year. But it is still +6.36# over the same date in 2014.

I don't know what is going on!!

Best wishes,

dhm
