3/16/15 was down -0.61 to 64.30. That gives us eight consecutive down days for the Index. The cut outs were up a little yesterday. If the cutouts continue to move higher, that may give packers the ability to bid a little higher but there is some catch-up to be done because packers' margins are very low at this point.
The six-day moving average carcass weight eased to 214.38#. That is only +0.15# year over year. Producers have done a good job of getting current in their shipments dropping the Yr/Yr carcass weight from +3.37# on 1-30-15. I will be watching to see if producers continue to pull hogs forward. If they do, marketing hogs at lighter weights may reduce the the impact that expansion has on the available pork supply.
