Following is part of an e-mail I received from Dennis
What an impressive close in hog futures today. The Dec/Feb was under pressure all session until very late. By the close the Dec closed higher and actually stronger than the Feb. Dec also settled above the 40 day MA, signaling a test of the highs at 6000. Feb and Apr, the whipping posts last week still have much work to do technically to right the ship. Summer hogs closed slightly lower but very near to their contract highs. Today’s kill was pegged at 478,000, a new record high daily kill effort. The late cash confirmed that prices were down $1.00. Receipts were not heavy. The closing pork showed the cutout down .14 at $70.69. Very active trade was noted in heavy hams and pork butts. Total load count came in at 426 loads compared to 461 last Tuesday.
